Share of women taking childcare leave Japan 2014-2023

In 2023, more than 84 percent of women in Japan took maternity leave. Within the observed period, the share of women who took maternity leave peaked in 2014 at approximately 86.6 percent. The share of men taking parental leave on the other hand increased significantly in 2023.
